There are plenty of different varieties of plant material out there to look at. Below are some commonly used plants/shrubs to help with ideas and choices. If you like a certain variety look up the variety and see what other options, they have. We have access to 100's of plants and can source almost anything as long as it is for our region. All our plant material comes with a 90 day warranty to insure the plant material is good and takes with the new soil.
A profusion of hot pink, semi-double blooms with golden yellow centers and glossy, dark green foliage. Flowers are perfect for cutting. Use as a colorful low hedge or high-profile groundcover. An early to mid-season bloomer. Moderate growing; reaches 4 to 5 ft. tall, 6 to 8 ft. wide.
'Kaleidoscope' is a dense, semi-evergreen, compact shrub with reddish purple stems and foliage that emerges green and yellow, turns gold in summer, and fiery red to orange for fall and winter. The coloration is most vibrant when the shrub is grown in full sun. 'Kaleidoscope' grows 2 to 2.5 ft. tall and 3 to 4 ft. wide. Its smaller size makes it suitable for growing in patio containers.
Butterfly bushes come in 2 general categories- a “larger” size that grows between 3 to 5 feet in width and 5 to 10 feet in height and the “dwarf” size that grows between 2 to 4 feet in width and 2 to 4 feet in height. There are various colors and bloom shapes that come in both categories.
This evergreen, dense shrub performs like a superstar when shaped into topiary designs or even bonsai art. The slow-growing Wintergreen Boxwood typically gains only 2 to 3 inches annually, maturing to heights of about 3 feet with a 4 to 5 foot spread with little upkeep.
'Golden Mop' is a mounded, slow-growing, dwarf shrub that typically grows to 2-3' tall and as wide over the first 10 years, eventually maturing to as much as 5' tall. This is a filifera-type plant with stringy, whip-like, golden yellow foliage.
Blue Cascade® typically grows to about 3-4 feet in height and spread (90-120 cm), making it an ideal choice for ground cover or low hedges. Flowers: It produces small, reddish-maroon flowers in the winter and early spring. These flowers are often subtle but a nice contrast to the foliage.
Dwarf Burning Bush forms a broad, rounded shrub 6 to 10 feet tall, and the same across, although it can easily be trimmed to a much smaller size. It has dense, upright branches with small, smooth leaves 2 or 3 inches long. These are rich green from spring to fall, making an attractive backdrop in the garden.
Forsythia is a deciduous shrub that, left untouched, can grow to 8′ in height. It's stems start green, but with time turn woody and feature rough gray bark. For most of the year, it's covered in dense, bright green foliage. In the spring, Forsythia blooms an abundance of bright yellow flowers.
Moderate growing; reaches 5 ft. tall, 3 ft. wide in natural form. Plant this tight, compact Gardenia in enclosed spaces such as entryways or patios where its perfume fragrance can be captured and enjoyed.
'Limelight' is a slightly more compact cultivar that typically grows to 6-8' tall and as wide. It is noted for producing large, dense, upright, cone-shaped panicles (to 8” across) of mostly sterile flowers that change color on the shrub as they mature.
Carissa Holly will grow to be about 4 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 4 feet. It has a low canopy. It grows at a medium rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for 50 years or more. This shrub does best in full sun to partial shade.

Dwarf yaupon is a compact, rounded shrub that rapidly grows 3 to 5 feet tall and 3 to 6 feet wide. Plant it in average, well-drained, neutral to acidic soils in full sun to partial shade; It will produce more flowers in sun. It is resistant to Phytophthora root rot, drought, salt spray, and deer browsing.
A unique form of Japanese holly, 'Sky Pencil' has a naturally narrow and upright (fastigiate) growth pattern. Height and Width: 10 feet tall and approximately 2.5 to 3.0 feet wide at maturity.
The Recurve Ligustrum, or Ligustrum Recurvifolium, is an upright evergreen shrub that adds color and texture with its broad, dark green, wavy leaves. This is an evergreen shrub with a compact growth habit to 10 feet high and 5 to 6 feet wide. The foliage is 2 to 4 inches long and rather leathery.
Sunshine Ligustrum is perfect for small gardens and can be planted in the shrub border, as a small hedge, or in containers. Grows up to 3-6 ft. tall (90-180 cm) and 3-4 ft. wide (90-120 cm).
Crimson Fire Loropetalum Grows up to 4 ft. tall (120 cm) and 4-5 ft. wide (120-150 cm). A full sun to part shade lover, this plant is easily grown in humus-rich, fertile, moist, well-drained soils.
'Lemon Lime' Nadina has short leaf internodes resulting in a very compact plant. Its new growth and outer foliage are chartreuse and contrast with the green of mature inner foliage. It grows 3 to 4 ft. tall and wide and rarely flowers.
Fragrant tea olives can grow as tall as 20 to 30 feet near the coast, although they are usually smaller, particularly in the Piedmont. Height is more often in the 10 to 12 foot range with an 8-foot width. Plants are upright when young, but can spread into a small vase-shaped tree at maturity.
Podocarpus 'Southern Yew' are versatile plants that are grown for their good-looking dark green foliage with pale undersides. They are up to 20 ft tall columnar growers but can be maintained at any height that produce small, fleshy fruit rather than cones.
'Otto Luyken' is a compact cultivar that grows only 3-4 feet tall and spreads to 6-8 feet. Over time it can grow 6-10 feet tall. It is free-flowering.
Encore® azaleas are evergreen, cultivar shrubs in the Ericaceae (blueberry) family that typically grow 2 to 5 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. These cultivars bloom not only in the spring but also in the summer and fall, hence the name encore. They come in Red, White, Pink, Bi-Color, & Double-Color.
Knockout roses usually grow to a height of 3-4 feet. The Knockout Rose may reach 5 feet. In some cases, they can grow up to 6 feet tall, although it doesn't happen often. They usually spread out about 3-4 feet as well. All of the Knock Out® Roses are self-cleaning so there is no need to deadhead. For best performance, cut back every year.
It grows rapidly to a height of 10 to 12 feet and a width of 6 to 8 feet. Grow this tough, durable plant in sun to partial shade. 'Chindo' tolerates a wide range of soils and is also mildly resistant to damage by deer.
